Analog Devices video crosspoint switches are used primarily for routing high speed signals, including composite video (NTSC, PAL, SECAM) and component video (YUV, RGB) in applications such as studios, video on demand, in-flight entertainment, surveillance, and video teleconferencing.

Analog Devices’ leading edge multiplexers offer multiple configurations from four channels to 32 channels in standard plastic packages, as well as in space saving LFCSP and WLCSP packages. Ron performance is industry best, with the ADG708 series muxes offering 2.5 Ω typical and ADG804 series < 1 Ω guaranteed over the full voltage range and temperature specification.

Analog Devices high speed, differential receivers and CAT-5 cable equalizers compensate for the transmission losses of UTP and coaxial cables up to 300 meters in length. Our design techniques for products such as the AD8123 optimize performance for low noise, short-to-medium range applications, while also providing the high gain bandwidth required for long cable equalizations. Various gain stages are summed together to best approximate the inverse frequency response of the cable. Logic circuitry controls the gain functions of the individual stages so that the lowest noise can be achieved at short-to-medium cable lengths.

Analog Devices provides designers with a robust portfolio of high speed triple, differential, and single-ended input to differential output CAT-5 video drivers. We designed the technology for the highest resolution component video signals, but it can be used for any type of analog signals or high speed data transmission over either Category 5 UTP cable or differential printed circuit board (PCB) transmission lines. Manufactured with our second generation XFCB bipolar process, the drivers have large signal bandwidths of 700 MHz, fast slew rate, and output amplitude and phase matching balanced to –60 dB at 50 MHz.

Our video receivers provide excellent common-mode rejection that enables the use of low cost, unshielded twisted pair cables in noisy environments.

It is often beneficial to use a video driver at the output of a video encoder for power savings, line driving, and additional circuit protection. The video driver is typically configured as an active filter, also known as a reconstruction or anti-imaging filter. The purpose of the reconstruction filter is twofold: it blocks the higher frequency components (above the Nyquist frequency) that were introduced into the video signal as part of the digitization process and provides gain to drive the external 75 Ω cable to the video display.

Analog Devices acts as a major supplier of video RF splitters and related technology such as CATV line drivers. Our high performance drivers and splitters enable the implementation of the most advanced cable modems and set top boxes on the market. Typical applications for our technology include multituner digital set top boxes, cable splitter modules, multituners/digital cable ready (DCR) televisions, and home gateways where traditional solutions require discrete passive splitter modules with separate fixed gain amplifiers.
