Real Time Eval System for Digital Output Sensor

Product Details

The iMEMS® Real Time Eval System is an easy-to-use evaluation tool targeting bench or desktop characterization of Analog Devices, Inc., inertial sensor products. The system consists of the inertial sensor evaluation board (ISEB), or main board, and a satellite board for any Analog Devices inertial sensor product. The ISEB connects directly to a PC via an USB cable, with the USB connection providing both communications and power to the board. The ISEB is connected to the satellite board through a ribbon cable. This cable allows the satellite to be easily manipulated for testing or separately placed into an environmental chamber for temperature or humidity testing. Separating the boards mitigates corruption of data due to the temperature and humidity effects of other components.

The ISEB is an universal main board and is intended to be used with various satellites of Analog Devices inertial sensors, including analog and digital accelerometers, as well as gyroscopes. The different products are evaluated by means of separate GUIs that are customized for performance and characterization measurements relevant to the inertial sensor being evaluated.

The EVAL-ADxZ-M system contains the ISEB and the EVAL-ADxZ-S satellite. Also included is an USB A to Mini-B cable to connect the ISEB to a PC and an 18-inch, 20-pin ribbon cable to connect the ISEB to the satellite.

Product Details

The ADXRS290 PMOD compatible evaluation/prototyping board is a small form factor, low cost, low noise two axis gyroscope sensor measurement board. When prototyping, this board is used in conjunction with the ADICUP3029 development platform. Direct electrical and physical connection will enable you to get started quickly with hardware and software, to help develop your solution.

SPI PMOD peripheral connectors can also be found on many 3rd party MCU or FPGA development boards, where the EVAL-ADXRS290-PMDZ can be connected directly into those systems, and you can develop your own application code using the ADI reference code provided.

ADXRS290Z Evaluation Board

Product Details

The EVAL-ADXRS290Z is a simple evaluation board that allows quick evaluation of the performance of the ADXRS290 dual-axis angular rate sensor (gyroscope). The EVAL-ADXRS290Z has two sets of 0.1 inch spaced vias, for population of 5-pin headers, for access to all power and signal lines. The vias or headers allow the evaluation board to be attached to a prototyping board (breadboard). Four holes are provided for mechanical attachment of the EVAL-ADXRS290Z to the application. An external host processor is required for communication to the part.

The dimensions of the EVAL-ADXRS290Z are 20 mm × 20 mm with mounting holes set 15 mm × 15 mm at the corners of the printed circuit board (PCB).

See the ADXRS290 data sheet for configuration of the accelerometer after it is connected to the application host processor.

The EVAL-ADXRS290Z has five factory installed capacitors The primary communications port is the 4-wire SPI interface.  For this device, external pull-up/pull-down resistors are not required for the SPI interface, and these pins can be connected directly to the system micro controller.

Handling Considerations

The EVAL-ADXRS290Z is not reverse polarity protected. Reversing the VS or VDD I/O supply and GND pins can cause damage to the ADXRS290.
Dropping the EVAL-ADXRS290Z on a hard surface can generate several thousand g’s of acceleration, which may exceed the data sheet absolute maximum limits. See the ADXRS290 data sheet for more information.

Since the power consumption of gyro is relatively high compared with the accelerometers, different shunt resistor have to be used to detect its power consumption, the difference between ADXRS290 –M with other –M is just the circuits for detecting the power consumption of the gyroscope.

The EVAL-ADXRS290Z-M system contains the ISEB and the EVAL-ADXRS290Z-S satellite board. Also included is an USB A to Mini-B cable to connect the ISEB to a PC and an 18-inch, 20-pin ribbon cable to connect the ISEB to the satellite.
