Delta-Sigma

What is a Delta-Sigma ADC?

Definition

Delta-sigma is an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture consisting of a 1-bit ADC and filtering circuitry which over-samples the input signal and performs noise-shaping to achieve a high-resolution digital output. The architecture is relatively inexpensive compared to other ADC architectures.

Sometimes called a "sigma-delta" converter.
