Multiturn Technology – Revolutionizing Industrial Automation Actuation & Control

2025-03-21

Operational efficiencies and reduced equipment downtime are brought about by the ability to track motion without power which eliminates the need for re-homing or re-calibration of end equipment upon power-on or following a power loss event. This presentation introduces new True-Power-On (TPO) multiturn position sensing technology from Analog Devices that is set to revolutionize actuator designs by eliminating the need for linear transducers, bulky gear reduction mechanisms or the need to continuously power the system. Rotary position sensors and encoders available today provide an absolute measurement range of one single turn or 360°. Systems that require multiple rotations of measurement range typically use bulky mechanical solutions or a backup power supply to track motion during power off. The ADMT4000 is a True-Power-On (TPO) multiturn position sensor that operates without power or contact and has an absolute measurement range of 46 turns (0 deg to 16,560 deg). Its capabilities are valuable in many Industrial Automation applications, including robots, cobots, humanoids and general-purpose actuator and encoder implementations. In addition to improved performance, this magnetic sensing solution reduces the size, weight and solution costs of actuator design. This innovative sensor technology also has broader appeal in Building Automation, Heavy Machinery, Automotive, Medical, Consumer and Defense actuator applications.
