Reducing Noise with the Silent Switcher 3

Feb 11 2025

Power sensitive applications, such as in telecom, displays, instrumentation, and digital healthcare are susceptible to low frequency noise and tend to require a larger, less energy efficient power solution, that requires a linear regulator. The Silent Switcher 3 from Analog Devices addresses the critical challenge of reducing solution size, while maintaining high efficiency in power sensitive applications. In this video, the benefits of the Silent Switcher 3's low frequency noise performance and small solution are showcased with an audio and visual demo. The demo includes a noise comparison between four power solutions: a standard switching regulator from a competitor, the LT8625S Silent Switcher 3, a standard LDO from a competitor, and ADI's LT3042 high performance LDO. Each power supply's low frequency noise in the audible range (20Hz-20kHz) is projected through a speaker and is displayed on a LED spectrum equalizer one at a time. In addition to the low frequency noise performance of the Silent Switcher 3, its small solution size is demonstrated on multiple ADI RF reference boards, comparing the Silent Switcher 3 solution to a Buck+LDO solution.
