Secure Industrial Edge Connectivity with 10BASE-T1L & Zephyr RTOS

    Oct 21 2024

The shift towards extending IP connectivity to the edge is driving the requirement for integrating 10BASE-T1L Ethernet connectivity into resource-constrained embedded devices.

The demo implements an "industrial network" with multiple embedded nodes running Zephyr RTOS firmware, interconnected over 10BASE-T1L Ethernet. This network is built on a new scalable hardware platform based on the ADIN2111 2-port switch for creating a 10BASE-T1L daisy chain network.

At the heart of an example node is a MAX32xxx MCU, running Zephyr RTOS firmware. The firmware demonstrates how Zephyr's ecosystem enables customers to rapidly develop secure networked devices with key IIoT protocols like TCP/IP, MQTT and TLS for security. Each node sends local sensor data to an MQTT broker, while responding to commands received over MQTT to control I/O devices. The demo will also show how secure device firmware updates can be run over 10BASE-T1L Ethernet.

This demo will not only show a system-level implementation of secure 10BASE-T1L connectivity, but also training on support for ADI's 10BASE-T1L and MAX32 MCU products within Zephyr's ecosystem and how customers can quickly get up and running with Zephyr application development for 10BASE-T1L devices and systems using development environments like ADI's Code Fusion Studio.
